Mission Statement:
Our aim as breeders of both Pure and Partbred Friesian's, is to ensure the public is aware of this beautiful breed, to promote them through demonstrations and competitions, and to show that the Friesian is no longer a short heavy 'draught' horse, but a capable and loving Sporthorse.
Our purebreds are bred from quality sound proven riding horses, from bloodlines of proven disposition, and to meet their breed standard.
We do not breed our partbreds for Friesian appearance, but for their ability to be your best friend, loving companion, and fierce competitor.
The Friesian is a very old breed of horse, dating back many hundreds of years. Its use has varied from a war horse ridden by Knights and Kings, to a work horse for farmers through the 100 year depression, and also a fancy harness or riding horse for the wealthy.
They have changed in size and stature depending on the time and requirements, but one thing above all has always remained the same... Their nature.
They are intelligent, loving, playful, they genuinely want to be with you.

Raven's Lodge is a small boutique stud situated in Victorian dairy country, just 15 minutes from Portland, and less than 1 hour from Warrnambool and Hamilton, it is the perfect place for raising a family and quality young horses.
Husband and wife team David and Donna have owned Friesians since 2001, the step into breeding came after David gave Donna a 75% Friesian gelding for her birthday, 'the moment this horse came into our lives, we were smitten'. Not to soon after the purchase of this gelding came the decision to breed these magestic sweet animals. A choice was then made in 2007 to move their family and stud to the south west of Victoria, where they can now concentrate more on their horses. Just recently in conjunction with sister stud BLACK SWAN FRIESIANS they have embarked on a partnership to breed Friesian horses with a strong focus on Dressage.
'The road has been long and hard, but always rewarding in the end, i would not give any of it up for the world. We made a choice a long time ago to work for the better of the breed, we love to chat with people about these horses, if we can make someone as happy as we are with our horses, it makes all the tough times seem so irrelevant. There really is no better feeling than that phone call or email telling you how much they love their new horse'
All our horses are registered with either ANZFHS & FPS (purebreds) and AFSS (partbreds).
